The Missioners progressed into the semi-finals of the Senior Cup at a canter on Tuesday evening courtesy of three first half goals, much as we had the previous week at Farnborough.

The home side chose to rest several regular starters as they had another game that was deemed more important later in the week although they did still put up a good show against a virtually full strength Missioners side.

Early exchanges were pretty much even with the first real chance coming our way fifteen minutes into the game, Daniel Dyer and Michael Bartley combined on the right flank, the latter made his way to the byeline and crossed to Stafforde Palmer who could only head over the crossbar.

The breakthrough was not long coming though, five minutes later Will Hendry stepped up to take a free-kick on the right and Ryan Tackley rose unchallenged in the middle to power home his maiden goal for the Club.

The lead would have lasted just two minutes but for the interception of debutant keeper Adam Thomson, Ben Hayden found Paul Killick just inside the area, his drive looked destined for the top corner until the youngster went full stretch to tip the effort over the bar. The corner was played towards the edge of the area where Rob Moules had positioned himself for a volley that went straight into the arms of a well placed Thomson.

Having almost been pulled back, it took just three minutes for the Missioners to double the advantage, Dyer picked up the ball virtually in his own half before racing past anything the opposition put in his way and firing past keeper Rob Blackburne from 20 yards, his first Hayes goal also.

With a two goal advantage it was looking like a case of how many? Gilbert Nuako popped up on the right and was just wide before Blackburne did well to save a Liam Feeney volley at the foot of the post. Still the one way traffic continued, Adam Logie found Palmer who turned his marker but shot too high and then with eight minutes to the break it was three and basically all over. Michael Bartley burst into the Edgware area only to be tripped as he manouvered towards goal, Hendry took the ball and comfortably beat Blackburne from the spot.

The home side made a couple of changes at the break, one seeing 16 year old keeper Edward Stopps replace the experienced Blackburne for a Wares debut and he performed well in keeping a second half clean sheet.

We continued to press but the urgency was no longer required, Dyer set up Palmer but Stopps made a good save before blocking away the rebound. Feeney then created a chance for Logie but Stopps was again in the way, pushing the skippers header away to safety.

The home sides best chance of the second period fell on the hour mark, Ben Cain received the ball on his chest on the edge of the box before allowing Killick to take possession, the striker cut inside but failed to trouble Thomson by firing too high.

Palmer had a shot blocked and the ball ran loose to Dyer on the far post only for Stopps to deny him at close range. The final ten minutes saw Jomo Faal-Thomas and substitute Kieran Knight create an opening for Palmer but he pulled his shot wide when well placed, much to his obvious annoyance.

Knight dragged a shot wide of the target also before a final move saw a Nuako free-kick flicked on by Mark E'Bayer to Knight whose header was saved right on the line at the second attempt by Stopps.
