After three games without scoring, it was good to find the net again for Colin Davis' reserve side. Despite holding up the league table, Walton & Hersham fought a hard game but seemed lacking in the front running department which gave the Missioners the edge as Adam Cornell bagged his 27th of the campaign.
The Missioners had a good chance in the opening ten minutes but Cornell's dipping volley was just too high to trouble Swans keeper Wester Young.
On 20 minutes the deadlock was broken, Darren Spinks free-kick was only partially cleared and as the ball was played back into the area, Dwain Williams beat Young to the ball before firing into the net from the acutest of angles much the everyone's dismay.
The Missioners continued to push forwards, Toby Little crossed from the left, Cornell missed his shot and the ball again fell to Williams but this time he was off target. Within a couple of minutes Williams had threaded the ball forwards to Cornell but his first time effort sailed over the bar. Williams again fired wide after being set up by Spinks and in stoppage time the visitors nearly stole in for a shock equaliser when Chris Kiganda arrived at the far post but could only put his shot wide of the gaping goal.
Early in the second period Kiganda again had a chance, this time self created, when he turned his marker in the six yard box only for John Peacock to superbly turn his shot away before the ball was hacked clear. Walton keeper Young then produced a fine save of his own just a minute later after a Cornell flick had sent Miles Jones through on goal, the resultant corner saw a comedy moment as Toby Little went to take the corner and only managed to nudge the ball while tacking out the corner flag !!!
A further 20 minutes had passed before a sublime Cornell finish gave the Missioners breathing space. Little picked up the ball just inside his own half before placing a ball between the two centre halves that Cornell moved onto and without hesitation lofted the ball over the oncoming Young and watched it drop perfectly into the empty net.
Rhys Price almost made it three a couple of minutes later but Young did well to tip his free-kick over the bar and the final two chances of the game both fell to the Swans. Lamin Ojo tried his luck from all of 40 yards and although well struck it was not going to beat Peacock who was also equal to a curling effort from Kiganda in stoppage time.
