A brace from Adam Cornell, one at either end of the game, saw Hayes to another three Suburban League points this afternoon as Colin Davis' side returned to the summit of the reserve league.

The Missioners had already made their intentions clear when a fifth minute Dwain Williams effort was just too high to trouble Mitch Swain in the Stones goal and the deadlock was broken minutes later. Rhys Price was given space in the middle of the park and his measured throughball saw Adam Cornell through against Swain and the top scorer beat the keeper easily from 18 yards.

Former Stone Junior Thompson then hit the side netting after good work by Miles Jones while we had to wait for the midway point in the half for the visitors to have a meaningful attack as Neil Fyfield was put through on goal by a stray back-pass but as John Peacock narrowed his angle the striker also hit side netting.

The last chance of the half fell to Price who worked a one-two with Cornell before seeing his left foot volley picked off easily by Swain.

The second period didn't really see a whole lot of goalmouth incident either, the first chance not coming until the final quarter of the game, Jones cut in from the right hand side, his cross into the six yard box beat Swain but was played away from danger by Darren Palmer as Erhard Seho slid in just failing to make contact.

Ten minutes from time Peacock was stretched for the first time, other than some good handling of crosses in the windy conditions, as the keeper diving to push away a 20 yard Sheye Adogoke effort before scrambling to his feet to touch the ball away for the safety of a corner.

This scare got an almost immediate reaction from the Hayes side as within minutes Cornell had netted again and the game was won. Jones raced away on the left side before cutting a perfect ball across the face of goal that Cornell forced home from close range.
