Hayes 4
Chalfont St Peter 1 |
 |
Simon East's under 18's continued their march towards a third consecutive Allied Counties title with a 4-1 victory over an improving Chalfont St Peter side at Church Road on Wednesday evening.
The game was fairly even in the first half with the visitors having the advantage of a strong wind at their backs which made it harder for us to clear our lines with any authority. The first chance did fall to the Missioners though, Michael Bryan moved in from the left before his cross was touched on by Andrew Harewood but recipient Dominic McAuley could not test keeper Alex Whyte who dealt with his effort easily.
John Peacock in the Hayes goal was soon in the action, being forced to tip a curling Charlie Strutton effort around his post and within a minute the visitors had another golden chance but a well placed Dean Atkins could only head wide of the target.
Harewood created space to move onto an Ollie Fayed pass only for his shot to be blocked away for a corner by Danny Kempson, the breakthrough however was not long in coming. Bryan dragged the ball across the edge of the box before firing what appeared to be a tame shot at goal only for keeper Whyte to misjudge the effort and dive late before turning to see the ball nestling in the back of his net.
Chalfont did not let their heads drop at going behind and started to press forwards with the assistance of the wind, Jamie Lindsay did well to tackle an advancing Strutton only for Tom Kaill to fire the loose ball wide of Peacocks goal, this was quickly followed by a right wing break and cross that was heading for Atkins head only for Martin Whitworth to get a decisive touch that took the ball away from the Chalfont man.
The Hayes advantage was almost doubled by Harewood who brought the ball down superbly and turned to fire a dipping shot over Whyte only to see it bounce away off the top of Chalfonts crossbar. From almost going two up we soon found ourselves back on level terms, a wind assisted pass from the middle of the park caught the back line napping and Strutton strode through to easily plant his effort past Peacock.
The last action of the half saw Fayed and Harewood again combine with the latter's shot just failing to hit the target.
The second half saw the league leaders with the wind at their backs and also saw a dominating performance that increased the scoreline to a three goal winning margin. It started well enough with McAuley and Liam Hind going close before a fine move five minutes in saw the advantage restored. The excellent Dave Thomas fired a crossfield pass to McAuley and he advanced before firing a perfect ball across the area that gave Harewood the easiest of finishes as he arrived in the six yard box.
Just three minutes later Whyte's net was rippled again, this time a right sided corner was mis-hit into the air by a defender and fell nicely to Ryan Jones who rammed it home off the underside of the crossbar.
Peacock then had to be alert to a Daniel Graham shot through a crowd but handled the
effort easily before Harewood tried from 25 yards with a backpeddaling Whyte just able to pluck the ball out of the air. Fayed was then just wide with a curling effort and substitute Matt Carroll saw his effort saved by Whyte's legs before the score increased for the final time. A fit again Toby Little fired a corner into the centre and when the Chalfont defenders failed to clear Hind was on hand to slot the ball home.
Next up is a top of the table visit to Farnborough Town on Wednesday 20th December, the two sides fought out an amazing 3-3 draw at Church Road earlier in the season, still the only points we have dropped.
