Hayes' youngsters had to settle for a point in Monday evenings topsy turvy clash with second placed Farnborough as the visitors struck an equaliser in stoppage time.
Boro' who had at least two first team squad members in their side could have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute but keeper John Peacock just managed to slide the ball away from the on-coming Russ Benham after a weak back pass put him under pressure.
Less than ten minutes later the Missioners opened the scoring, a high cross from the right side saw Ryan Jones jump against Boro keeper Simon Cook, the keeper failing to grasp the ball and Jones was able to place the ball perfectly for Liam Hind to fire into the net from close range.
Having gone behind, the visitors began to dominate possession without really troubling Peacock, thanks in the main to the solid central defensive partnership of Dave Thomas and Jamie Lindsay. Left back Jack Rooney did well to beat Dale Stevens to a centre before Nick Ciardini saw a 20 yard drive whistle past Peacocks upright.
Hind could have had a second ten minutes before the break only for his well placed header to be tipped over by Cook at full stretch and Thomas's header from the resultant corner sailed over the bar.
Deep into first half stoppage time the visitors finally broke through the Hayes defence to force an equaliser that was somewhat fortunate. Neil Marsh found space on the right, his centre fell to Stevens whose totally mis-hit shot fell perfectly to Benham who struck a first time shot across Peacock into the far corner.
Early exchanges in the second period were pretty even, Boro substitute Aaron King saw a shot comfortably dealt with by Peacock and at the other end Lindsay's 25 yard effort failed to hit the target. Just after the hour mark the visitors took the lead thanks to a quick bit of thinking from Ciardini, a young striker who has already played in the Conference South. Having conceded a free-kick 25 yards from goal the Hayes defence went to sleep as Ciardini stepped up and placed a quickly taken kick around the wall with Peacock and the wall rooted to the floor.
Hayes came out from this setback
and began to press for an instant equaliser, Thomas saw a free-kick curl away from goal having beaten the wall but the defender only had three minutes to wait before pulling the game level. A poor defensive clearance fell to Jerome Ferguson and similarly to Farnborough's opener, the ball fell to the feet of the excellent Thomas who controlled before turning and firing past Cook from ten yards.
Less than ten minutes later we took the lead for the second time, a deep right side cross from Jack Bigwood saw Cook fail to get a touch as Andrew Harewood rose at the far post to force his header in off the underside of the crossbar.
Boro continued to pressurise Peacock who had to be alert to save from both Ciardini and Chris Page before the stopper was beaten for the third time deep into stoppage time when a deep cross fell to James Kolodynski and his drive appeared to take a deflection before finding its way into the Hayes net for what must be described as a deserved equaliser.
