Wealdstone 0 Hayes 5

Hayes' Allied Counties League under 18s team bounced back from their shock FA Youth Cup exit by steamrolling past Wealdstone at Ruislip Manor's Grosvenor Vale ground on Wednesday evening.

Ryan Jones was quickly into his goalscoring stride. Within five minutes, he managed to rob a rather hesitant Richard McCabe of the ball before rounding him and finishing to put Hayes one up.

And soon after, he was threatening to double the lead when he wriggled free of a challenge in the six yard box. However, his shot from an acute angle hit the post and went wide.

Daniel Mehmet ought to have scored with a free header from Jack Rooney's cross, especially as McCabe had curiously vacated his goal, but his effort drifted wide. However, it wasn't long before Michael Bryan's pace and control was to make an impact on the game. His cross caused panic in the Wealdstone defence and Matthew Obilor produced a finish just as it seemed that he'd delayed too long.

Seven minutes before half time, Jones got his second and Hayes's third of the game, by outpacing the defence and finishing coolly, low to McCabe's left.

Mehmet was denied a goal right on half time by an offside flag against Jones, who was standing in front of McCabe as Mehmet stroked the ball home from a corner.

The second half was far more subdued, possibly due to the serious looking shoulder injury which Toby Little sustained falling over a fair challenge.

However, with Wealdstone's defence tiring, Hayes stepped up the pace again for the last fifteen minutes and it was only a fine intervention from centre back Dale D'Austin which denied Andrew Harewood a goal.

It wasn't long before his goal came. An outswinging corner from the right was fired against the post by Mehmet and Harewood was on hand to convert the rebound into an empty net.

With time ebbing away, Bryan managed to produce a moment of sublime skill which saw him trap Liam Hind's long pass well enough to take him away from his marker and square for Matt Carroll to finish easily.

Carroll emulated this skill in injury time, trapping beautifully to cut insde before smashing the ball goalwards, only for McCabe to block his shot with his legs as the final whistle sounded.
