Hayes 3 Wealdstone 1

Simon East's under 18's maintained their two point advantage over Farnborough at the top of the table courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Wealdstone at Church Road on Monday evening.

The game unusually was a bit of a non event in the first half with neither side really testing the opposing keeper. The best chances for the Missioners both fell to Andrew Harewood when 'Stones keeper Darren Walsh came racing from his area to play sweeper. Firstly Harewood rose highest to nod over the on-coming Walsh only for the ball to run away from goal and just eight minutes later the stopper again came racing from goal only for Harewood to out jump Walsh and defender John Sonuga before seeing his volley sail wide of the target.

At the other end John Peacock had no trouble handling a 35 yard effort from Nishan Senanayake with there best chance falling to Fedal Williams who was presented with a free header from Olu Okunola's cross only to fail to hit the target.

The second half was to prove a much more lively affair and top scorer Ryan Jones would have made early inroads but for an excellent save from Walsh as he turned the strikers close range effort around the post.

On the hour mark Anthony Smith picked up the ball on the edge of the area but Peacock dealt with his shot on the turn without much trouble before Harewood was released at the other end, his centre falling to Michael Bryan but his left foot effort was easy for Walsh. Almost immediately play switched ends again and Smith rose well between Jamie Lindsay and Dave Thomas to meet a Jermaine Dawson cross but his effort again failed to trouble Peacock.

This latest chance was the spur for the Missioners to move into a match winning position as they dominated play and netted three times in just nineteen minutes. Harewood opened the scoring on 66 minutes, a long Lindsay free-kick was channeled out to Dominic McAuley and his centre found Harewood who turned and beat Walsh from close range. Jones then volleyed over after substitute Ollie Fayed had placed his on volley to the striker and then the same player went closer when Walsh dived full length to tip his effort around the post.

Still the Missioners pushed forwards and it was no surprise when the second was added on 77 minutes as Fayed rose above Sonuea to head home a Bryan corner from the left side. Liam Hind then took the ball from a static defender before firing just wide of the upright and minutes later it was three. Bryan hit a volley from outside the box that was going wide before striking Matt Carroll, the substitutes touch taking the ball perfectly into the path of Harewood who fired home, again from close range.

As the game hit the final minute the visitors found the net for a deserved consolation goal, Smith hit a deep cross that was met by Jermaine Expo, his lofted effort beat Peacock but bounced back off the bar only for Smith to be quickest to tuck the loose ball into the vacant net.
